Session 4: Gaslighting at Work — Spot It, Stop It, Speak Up
Part of the Choose to Grow x Own My Life Partnership Series: Women at Work & Leadership 2026
The Story Behind the Series
Gaslighting isn’t just something that happens in toxic relationships, it happens at work, too. It’s the subtle manipulation that makes you question your memory, your judgment, and your reality. It’s when your valid concerns are dismissed as “overreactions,” your achievements are downplayed, or you’re made to feel like the problem for raising an issue. This behaviour thrives in silence and power imbalance, and women are disproportionately targeted by it, especially in male-dominated industries or hierarchical environments.
Research shows that:
58% of working women have experienced gaslighting or psychological manipulation at work (Monster UK Workplace Report, 2023)
1 in 3 women leaders say they’ve been undermined or ignored in meetings, later doubting their own judgment (McKinsey, 2024)
Victim-survivors of coercive control are far more likely to normalise gaslighting behaviour, both giving it less weight and blaming themselves (Women’s Aid, 2024)
That’s why Choose to Grow and Own My Life have joined forces, to empower women to recognise manipulation for what it is, rebuild self-trust, and speak up safely. Each 30-minute lunchtime session in this series blends theory, awareness, and practical steps, helping women at every level to identify harmful patterns, strengthen self-efficacy, and take action.

Why This Series Exists
The Choose to Grow x Own My Life Partnership Series is about helping women recognise, name, and challenge the patterns of control that exist in both personal and professional spaces. This isn’t about confrontation, it’s about clarity, confidence, and collective change. Through awareness, practical tools, and sisterhood, we’re helping women everywhere rebuild trust in themselves and create safer, more empowering workplaces.
